51/365 Sorry we’re closed

Having reached 50 days on my Gravesend 365 project, I’ve decided to call a halt here. The pressure of posting a shot every day has resulted in me posting work I’m not happy with and that’s really not the point. I’ve found out it’s easy to post a shot every day, it’s very hard to post a good shot every day.

I’m going to carry on shooting around Gravesend, the vast majority of what I do is shot here anyway. What I’m not going to do is post work that I’m not proud of.

I’m currently shooting a long-term project around the Sanctuary a night shelter for the homeless in Gravesend.

48/365 Ladies only by Nigel Rumsey

Ladies toilet, Echo Square, Gravesend

Echo Square, Gravesend

I love this little place. It used to be a Ladies toilet, but closed about 20 years ago. In 2005 someone put in a planning application to turn it into a coffee hut but the Council turned it down, I think it would make a great little gallery. Sadly recently someone broke in and damaged the nice blue door in the process.

46/365 Minor Landmark #2 by Nigel Rumsey

Public toilet by Plastik Architects, Gravesend

Parrock Street, Gravesend

The answer to yesterday’s question. The minor landmark created by Plastik Architects is a public toilet. Opened in 2007, shortlisted for the RIBA Regional award 2007, awarded Best Small Project by Kent County Council and now seemingly closed.

Sadly no one won the prize of an all inclusive holiday for two to Costa Rica.
